Re-reading Climate Crisis From the Perspective of Ecocriticism

The Place of Human-Nature Duality in Yaşar Kemal’s Literature in Contemporary Climate Narrative

Abstract

In this study, the contrasts between the climate change discourse that is dominant in the international arena and the arguments presented by the critical theory are examined by focusing on the books of Yaşar Kemal with the ecocritical method. Within the framework of the study, two titles were used to read the contrasts here. The first of these is the human-nature relationship, and the other is the discussion of locality and universality based on the concepts of eco-justice/eco-equality. Based on this analysis, an approach based on critical theory has been brought to the ecocritical readings made on Yaşar Kemal in the literature, and the role of this method in the political field has been emphasized. In the readings of Deniz Küstü, Teneke, Yanan Ormanlarda Elli Gün, Demirciler Çarşısı Cinayeti, Kuşlar da Gitti, İnce Memed, it was underlined that Yaşar Kemal’s literature developed an understanding of ecology and environment close to critical theory.
