Since its conquest in the year 1392, there have been many claims made regarding the kinship relationship between the governors (uçbeyleri) of Üsküp, Paşa Yiğit Mehmed Beg and his successor Hacı İshak Beg. However, apart from the generally accepted claims, none of the allegations have been fully substantiated. This article examines the claims put forward while also bringing to light another overlooked claim up until today; thus, shedding light on many unknown aspects of the roots of Paşa Yiğit Beg, İshak Beg, and even the leader of the Mora raiders, Turahan Beg. The article, not solely focusing on lineage issues, aims to understand the cultural environment in which the governors were raised, offering clues about the transfer of many elements of Anatolian Turkish culture to the Balkans and thus paving the way for a rewriting of city history of Üsküp (Skopje).
