Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of project-based artificial intelligence literacy trainings implemented within the scope of the University Student Communities Cooperation and Support Programme (UNIDES) project conducted at Kırıkkale University. The aim of the study is to measure the change in university students' knowledge, skills and attitudes towards artificial intelligence technologies and to examine its contribution to their professional development. A survey model based on quantitative research approach was used and the study group consisted of 514 associate, undergraduate and graduate students who participated in the UNIDES project programme in the 2024-2025 academic year. The Artificial Intelligence Literacy Activities Evaluation Questionnaire developed by the researchers was used as a data collection tool. The findings show that the project-based approach positively affects students' artificial intelligence knowledge levels, application competences and professional development. While a high impact was observed in the working principles and application areas of artificial intelligence systems, it was determined that additional training was needed in ethics and security issues. The study reveals the effects of a systematic programme for the development of artificial intelligence literacy in higher education in Türkiye with quantitative data.
