Lying is a behavior that potentially harms others and even the entire society while benefiting its subject. To design mechanisms aiming to prevent or limit the lying behavior, it is necessary to determine the factors that trigger and promote it. This article presents the fundamental paradigms employed to investigate these factors, the main findings and some views on future research directions in experimental economics.
